The U.S. Energy Information Administration predicts that U.S. production of petroleum and other liquid fuels will grow from 14.8 million barrels per day in 2016 to 18.6 million in 2040. Those are the numbers put forth in its “reference case” in the Annual Energy Outlook 2016.
Its predictions vary for different cases, however – taking into account future variations in oil prices and technology.
The result is that the projections of oil and natural gas plant liquid production are widely different depending on what will happen, while biofuel production, for instance, remains consistent in different scenarios.
