For the sake of charity… and maybe a little bit of fun, the Southeast Petro Team came out on Saturday to the Brevard County Jail for the Sheriff’s 3rd Annual Jailbreak Brevard Adventure Race 2015! We only made up around 20 of the 700 competitors that raced, but we probably had the most fun out of everyone.
The team was transported in an authentic prisoner bus from the jail parking lot to the race area. Musty air, iron bars and the sweet stench of your neighbor was a good indication that we were in for a ride.
At the start of the race, the Southeast Petro minions were corralled into a chain link fence run that made for no escape from the lectures and the cheap shots Sheriff Wayne Ivey took at our team. Among the chastised was the Director of Sales, Ryan Firth who received an unexpected, however hilarious, ice water bath delved by the officers from behind the corral with a huge five gallon bucket over his head. He even lost a wrist band for his association with the Sheriff back in his younger days.
After our berating from Sheriff Ivey and his crew, the race kicked off with a nice submersion in the dumpster filled with ice water. Fortunately, the very next obstacle was a steamy, wet mud puddle that left no room for keeping your head above the water to make it under the wooden bridge. There were 25 obstacles along the 3.1 mile trek through the woods that included tire walls, rock walls, rope swings, cargo net crawls, muddy tunnels and more.
If that wasn’t enough, there were three points in the trail where participants were confronted with officers reeling to take one of our three wrist bands. (You had to finish the race with at least one wrist band.) They went to all lengths to capture and seize wrist bands; including tackling, choke holds, and bear hugging! Don’t worry, no one was severely injured… They even had a Sasquatch jump out at participants as they rounded the bend!
Overall, it was great fun! The Southeast Petro Team had a blast, and are proud to have been a part of each one of these events from their beginning in 2012. The Brevard County Sheriff’s office raised over $50,000 for the Parker Foundation for Autism and Brevard Field of Dreams. We want to thank Sheriff Wayne Ivey and the entire Brevard Jailbreak Adventure Race Team that consisted of officers and volunteers alike to put on such a great event. We will definitely be attending next year!
