The citations are beginning to roll in, and we are getting calls left and right in regards to the new American’s with Disabilities Act, ADA call for assistance decal law that went into effect as of July 1st, 2016. The new law states that each pump must have a blue ADA call for assistance decal that clearly displays the international symbol of accessibility, the store telephone number, and the words “Call for Assistance”. You can read the entire statute here. The Department of Agriculture has been issuing citations for the new ordinance, and if found non-compliant, sites are facing fines if they do not get the new stickers in place with a 5 day deadline.
What the Department of Agriculture fails to provide along with their citation, is a resource for where to order these decals. Don’t try doing a Google search for them just yet, because no one has them. Fortunately, Southeast Petro was able to get Petroleum Group, LLC to special order them for us to get out to all of our stores.
At $3 each, this is not an economical order by any means for the over 400 stores that Southeast Petro either owns or supplies throughout Florida. However, a bulk order was placed so that all of Southeast Petro’s stores would be able to get back into compliance before they are fined.
If you are a Southeast Petro customer, you may order your decals by filling out the form below and submitting electronically, or downloading this form and faxing to our offices and we will mail them direct to you. There will be a charge of $3.00 per ADA call for assistance decal plus shipping and handling. If you are not a Southeast Petro customer, you can contact Petroleum Group LLC to order decals.
We recommend that you place your order now so that you will be ready for inspections that are taking place throughout Florida. If you have been cited for the violation and need the ADA call for assistance decals immediately, please make sure that you choose the ‘Expedite’ Option so that we can overnight the decals for you to have in place on time.
Some best practices for the decals in order to best serve your customers and make them last as long as possible are as follows:
- Write the store number on the decal with a permanent dark colored marker be sure you are not writing a personal cell phone number
- Thoroughly clean the pump where the decal will be placed and let dry before application
- Order extra decals to have on hand in case of damage
If you are planning on making your own decals, be sure to read the law first. There are several ADA call for assistance decal size requirements that, if not met, may put you right back into the same predicament next time the Department of Agriculture comes to your station for an inspection.
Be sure you are compliant in all other areas of ADA, read our article here.
