About half of convenience stores are shifting their shelf space to bring in more electronic cigarettes and vapor products, according to a study conducted by Convenience Store News.
The study found more than 25 percent of those retailers have decreased space for cigarettes, as well as cigars, papers and pipe tobacco.
Most retailers said their cigarette sales had increased or stayed the same in 2014, compared with 2013. About half, 52.6 percent, said their smokeless tobacco sales had increased.
The survey also suggested that e-cigarette sales are leveling off, as a quarter of respondents said their dollar sales had remained the same, and 18.3 percent said they’d decreased. But 62.3 percent reported higher dollar sales of vapor products – perhaps because more of the stores actually offer those products.
